What is Live Edge Or Natural Edge Wood

Looking for a unique and stylish piece of home furnishing that will set your home apart from the rest? Check out live edge or natural edge wood! This natural and raw material is perfect for adding a unique touch to any space.

Live edge wood is a form of wood with natural edges. The bark is still intact in certain instances, giving it a rustic appeal and modern look. It always stays in style and easily enhances any space's aesthetic. Live edge slabs preserve wood's raw, rustic elements, including visible knots and grooves. Because the tree from which the wood was cut remained unaltered, no two pieces of live edge wood are identical. These natural-looking woods appeal to rustic and modern design fans alike since they have a natural beauty that adds character.

However, special challenges are involved in working with live edge wood, such as what to do with the bark, holes, edges, and cracks. We'll address these challenges for you.

How TB Wood Creations Uses LIve Edge

At TB Wood Creations, we embrace the unique characteristics of live edge wood. We aim to leave as much of the natural look intact as possible, depending on the products we create. Our wood slabs are sourced from local lumber mills that harvest, kiln dry, and cut the lumber into various lengths and sizes. We actively seek out live edge wood slabs for our projects, avoiding the monotony of squares and rectangles. After all, who needs boring shapes when you can have the organic beauty of live edge wood?

We utilize the best cuts of natural Wisconsin lumber, including:

Black Walnut, Maple, Cherry, Basswood, Spalted Maple, Hackberry, Ash, Elm, and More!

Preserving Wood's Natural Beauty

TB Wood Creations employs epoxy resin, varnish oil, or a combination of both to enhance the look and protect the wood, depending on the product and its intended use. For instance, if we produce a laser-engraved sign and our customer wants to preserve the bark, we will remove any loose bark and epoxy the remaining bark to retain its natural look. The epoxy not only preserves the bark but also enhances its visual appeal. The flat portion of the product receives two coats of varnish oil, which provides protection and a slight darkening of the wood, all while maintaining its natural beauty.

Our varnish oil is a superior penetrating linseed oil and natural pine resin finish, known for its excellent abrasion resistance and durability.  Our varnish oil is food-safe, solvent-free, VOC-free, and non-toxic.

Enhancing the Look and Protecting Wood with Epoxy Resin

At TB Wood Creations, we see imperfections in wood as unique characteristics. Bug holes, end cuts, and cracks can be filled with epoxy resin or custom-formed to enhance the wood's appearance. We even offer various color options to further enhance the beauty of your wood creations. Our river tables, available in different shapes like coffee tables, end tables, and tabletop wine racks, are a testament to the limitless possibilities of epoxy resin. We can apply paints directly to the wood or add them to the epoxy resin, ensuring your options are endless.
